About me

I count myself fortunate to live in Llandeilo, an ancient market town nestled on a hillside in the shadow of the magnificent Dinefwr castle - itself surrounded by woodlands of beech and some of the oldest oaks in the United Kingdom.For someone with a focus on landscape photography, there can be few places that offer such an incredible array of scenery and photographic opportunity. I can strike out for lonely coasts, temperate rainforests, desolate mountains, and rivers and waterfalls in full flood. I walk the Dinefwr estate for a two or three of hours every day with Bess, my smooth-coated border collie (occasionally captured in images on this site). I never tire of being able to experience the changing seasons - and even see those ‘seasons within seasons’. Red kites and buzzards, songbirds, kingfishers, and many species of water fowl teem on this National Trust estate.I started my landscape photography journey in the Southwestern USA where I studied and worked in the early 1980s. Yes, an unbelievably beautiful land - full of colour and grandeur and you will some images of those places on this site.But it is West Wales that stirs hiraeth in my soul, and I hope that I succeed in reflecting some of this passion in the images that I present.Paul Williams

Port Talbot in a Time of Change

For some time I have been visiting Port Talbot and recording the various aspects of the Town at a likely turning point for the area. Tata Steel decommission the last two smelting furnaces in favour of electric arc furnaces that will 're-cycle' scrap steel.

It may be some years before the impact of this change on the town and the people can be formally assessed. Click the link below to see more

Portraiture: A Different Take

From this website you will see that the majority of my work has a emphasis on landscapes - especially trying to tease out the beauty of complex woodland, river and coastal scenes of Wales.

However, I have undertaken many portraiture and event assignments over the years and I am presenting some omissions my work on this site.

The Light We Cannot See

The human eye captures ('sees') ight of wavelengths from about 400nm to 750nm - being less sensitive at the extremes of this range.

I recently acquired an old Nikon 3200 DSLR with a sensor that has been converted to only pass wavelengths above 720nm - that is near infrared and beyond rather than the visible spectrum that is usually captured by the sensor.

Armed with this conversion, I have been experimenting with infrared photography for some of my monochrome landscapes.
